On the teal side wall of one of Waco's oldest antique stores, painter Becky Kindred has given the shop's mascot her full coronation: a monkey in a gold crown, blonde bombshell wig, pearls and a cocktail ring, one arm draped out the window of a lime-green 1950s pickup with THE JUNKY MONKEY on the door. The truck bed is piled with exactly what's inside the store — a dresser, a lamp, somebody's treasure that was somebody else's Tuesday.

The Junky Monkey has been digging through Waco's attics for well over a decade, out on La Salle Avenue — the old highway strip the Magnolia era keeps rediscovering. Downtown gets the commissioned festival walls; out here, a working shop paints its own queen on the bricks and gets on with the day. Both are street art. Only one will also sell you the dresser.
