Wing murals are everywhere now, and most of them are only a backdrop. This one, painted by Kalyn Dunks in 2020 on Austin Avenue, does the extra work: above the feathers is Hebrews 13:2 set in a mix of caps and script — the line about entertaining angels unaware — and below them runs a silhouette of the Waco skyline with the ALICO tower where it belongs.
That turns the joke of a wing mural into the point of one. You do not stand in these wings to be an angel. You stand in them to be reminded that the stranger in front of you might be. The commission came from Visiting Angels, a home-care company, which makes the verse a mission statement rather than a decoration.
It is tagged #WACOWINGS, and Waco being Waco, that hashtag now covers half a dozen walls. This is the one with the scripture on it.
