A stop on the Waco Sculpture Zoo trail

“Branding the Brazos” by Robert Summers, 2008–2014 · 25 bronze longhorns & 3 trail riders

Bronze longhorns and riders remember the real cattle drives that crossed the Brazos right here.

These longhorns aren't make-believe. A century and a half ago, real herds came down this bank on the Chisholm Trail and crossed the river where you're standing. Sculptor Robert Summers spent years building this tribute: twenty-five longhorns, larger than life, driven by three riders who honor the Hispanic, Black, and European cowboys who really rode this trail. Take it slow here. The animals you're about to meet up the river all know the legend: if a thousand longhorns could trust Waco's bridge, so could they.
