Hard-edged color across a corrugated wall, with one word hidden in the geometry. Same painter as the giant matchbox.
Mick Burson painted this in 2019, and if you have already stopped at the Fire Place matchbox on Barnard Street you know his instinct: take a plain industrial surface and treat it as a designed object rather than a canvas to hang a picture on. Here the surface is corrugated metal, and the corrugation is doing half the work — every vertical rib catches light differently, so a flat block of color reads as a striped one depending on where the sun is.
The composition is geometric and cool: angled planes, hard edges, a palette that stays deliberately restrained. And worked into the shapes, not lettered on top of them, is the word RAIN. You will not see it from a moving car. You will see it once you stop and let your eye settle, and then you cannot unsee it.
Burson has quite a few walls in Waco, and this is one of the least advertised.
