5The Bridge Held Up by Laundry
Clothesline of Mission Waco — resale-shop muralMURAL
Waco's Suspension Bridge, rebuilt out of socks.
Give it a second. It's the Suspension Bridge — four brick towers, right there in pinstripes — except the cables have been replaced with a clothesline, and the clothesline is strung with laundry. Shirts, socks, a little dress, jeans, all pegged up and swaying. Which means the laundry is doing the bridge's job. Waco's most famous crossing, held up entirely by somebody's Tuesday wash.
It's painted on the side of Mission Waco's resale store, which makes the joke land twice: this is a wall about secondhand clothes holding a city together, on a shop where secondhand clothes hold a city together.
