A window-tint shop on Franklin dressed itself as a 1950s Sinclair station, right down to two green dinosaurs on the roof.
Sinclair Oil started using a brontosaurus in its advertising in the 1930s, and by the 1960s Dino was on the signs, the maps and the inflatable giveaways. Waco Tint, at 1725 Franklin Ave, has taken that whole world and put it back up: a flat canopy over the pump island, a hanging Sinclair sign underneath it, garage bays lettered AUTO and TINT, a red pedal car parked where a kid would leave one — and two green brontosaurus statues standing on the roofline where you cannot possibly miss them.
We want to be careful here, because it is an easy story to get wrong. We have not found a record that this building is a restored historic Sinclair station, and we are not going to claim it is one. What is true is what you can see: somebody spent real money and real attention making a modern tint shop look like a filling station your grandfather would have pulled into, and then put dinosaurs on top of it.
