7The Building Wearing a Tree

A single orange-gold trunk comes up out of the ground and forks into a canopy that covers an entire building — and every branch, every twig, every last shoot ends in a tight little spiral. Dozens of them. It's Klimt by way of Central Texas, painted across a field of what looks like a million hand-set pebbles.

Stand back far enough and something else happens. The building has two dark windows sitting low on either side of the trunk. Two eyes, one nose. The whole tree is its hair. It is not a building with a mural on it. It's a face wearing a tree.
