Captain Peek and his lookouts have been expecting you. All of you.
You made it — and the Welcome Party knew you were coming. Captain Peek stands at the very top of the termite mound, chin to the sky, taking the neighborhood watch more seriously than anyone in the history of watching. Below him the rest of the tribe splits the shift the way meerkats do: somebody digs, somebody minds the young ones, somebody just sits up and stares hard at the horizon in case the horizon tries anything. Nobody assigned these jobs. They simply got done. From here to the gates the whole savanna is waiting on the lawn — but the meerkats saw you first, and they will tell you so.
